March 7, 2010 — When Tragedy Strikes
  Why? Why? Why God? ... Why do you allow tragedies to happen? If you are a loving and omnipotent God, why did you permit the atrocities of 9/11? Why did you permit the Indonesian Tsunami that killed over 200,000 people? Why did you permit the recent earthquake in Haiti? When tragedy strikes, the cry of the human heart is why. Answers are not readily available, for God’s ways are higher than our ways.1 In Christ’s day, it was a common Jewish belief that, if disaster befell a person, it was because God was punishing him for some dreadful sin that he or his parents had committed. That is to say, a bodily handicap or a sudden, violent death was seen as public proof of some terrible prior sin.
February 28, 2010 — Brokenhearted!
Have you ever been hurt? I’m not talking about physical or bodily pain. I’m talking about the pain of a broken heart, the pain that comes from rejection. How much does it hurt? Hurts plenty.Their wedding took place on October 5, 2004. When they exchanged vows, each said, “And I pledge you my faithfulness in every duty, not to part from you until death parts us.” (Or words to that effect). It was a fairytale wedding. He was a young, gifted athlete; she was a successful model. Their marriage seemed almost magical and the things of which fairytales are made.
